Mary and her husband James, who are both in their early 40s, have a barthollet home.
Mary says that her husband, who is a carpenter, likes to build furniture.
“He likes to be on the cutting edge, and we like to build stuff,” Mary says.
“It’s not necessarily for our financial gain.
We like to do it because it’s fun, but we’re just trying to live in a house that we’re proud of.”
The couple bought their barthole home in a row house, which is one of the oldest types of single-family homes.
The house has an old-style barn and was built in 1883 by the Marys’ grandfather.
The front yard is lined with colorful flags and a mural of a lion that sits in the yard.
The yard has a tree growing out of the mud that they planted and a fountain.
The bartholes are in the process of updating the interior of the house.
The family’s main living room and kitchen are open to the elements.
Mary and the family are not the only ones who enjoy living in the barn.
In 2018, Mary and two other people built a barbed-wire fence around their house.
When they wanted to renovate the house, the house’s architect told them to go ahead with the renovation, but Mary said she was hesitant.
“We’ve lived here our whole lives, and it just wasn’t our thing,” Mary said.
“I was like, ‘What are you doing here?'”
The house’s current interior is a mix of older and newer pieces.
Mary’s home is currently listed for $1.9 million.
The property is currently for sale on a five-year lease.
