Melbourne’s most expensive home is for sale, with the sale price of a $1.2 million house in the suburb of Mackey set to hit $1 million.
The house in Mount Elizabeth, on the outskirts of Melbourne, was listed on the website of the Mackey Home Builders Association.
The listing comes as the number of properties listed for sale in the area has risen by more than 300 per cent in the past three years, according to the real estate website Trulia.
Mackey’s house sits on land that was purchased in 2015 for $1,000,000.
It is owned by the Mackeys, who live in an old-style house with an indoor swimming pool and gymnasium.
While the price tag of the listing is still being assessed, Trulia says it is expected to sell for between $2 million and $3 million.
It is understood the Macquarie family have not yet confirmed whether or not they will sell their property, but have indicated that they plan to keep the property.
Trulia said the Macmores had sold their home at least five times in the last decade, including in 2011 when they sold it to a local family.
However, the Maccarts have not sold their property for the past five years and were hoping to find a buyer for the property, said Trulia’s editor-in-chief, Rob Hinton.
In September, the family announced they would be selling the property and have applied for a tax break from the Government to help pay for the purchase.
This has been a very long time coming.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to sell a once-in-(or-never) property for a fraction of its current market value, while providing the community with a new home for many years to come,” Maccards said in a statement.
Hinton said that in 2016, the home sold for $8.7 million.
“The sale of this property is a huge boost for our local community, and we look forward to seeing the new Macquaries and their new family living in the property for many generations to come.”
Trusted Property Australia, which helps clients with complex real estate transactions, said it was aware of the potential sale.
